Comparative plastome analyses and genomic resource development for diverse Pyropia varieties based on genome skimming data

This study focuses on two important economic seaweeds in Asia -- Pyropia haitanensis and P. yezoensis. These two species face difficulties in germplasm management and genetic identification due to phenotypic plasticity and limited molecular resources. To solve this problem, the study uses low-coverage whole-genome sequencing to analyze the chloroplast genomes of seven newly bred Pyropia varieties. The genomic resources provided by this study, including complete chloroplast genomes, hypervariable regions, and polymorphic SSR markers, will contribute to germplasm identification, phylogenetic research, and molecular breeding of Pyropia.
