资源简介:
Seawalls are an increasingly common component of urban seascapes and, when compared to their closest natural analogue, rocky shores, typically support reduced biodiversity. Among other factors, differences in colour between natural and artificial surfaces may contribute to differences in their biodiversity. Surface brightness can influence patterns of settlement and, by affecting thermal environment, post-settlement survivorship. This study (1) quantified differences in brightness of natural and artificial intertidal surfaces, (2) assessed differences in thermal environments of these; and (3) using a manipulative experiment comprising an artificial colour gradient, assessed how brightness influenced community development on artificial surfaces. The results of this research will provide guidance on how seawalls should be coloured to maximise ecological benefits.
