Carta a un oficial real no identificado en la cual el Padre Serra informa sobre su viaje por mar a Monterrey, la entrega de provisiones y el estado de las misiones en el área. Comienza informando sobre la llegada de la fragata a Monterey y la descarga y distribución de suministros muy necesarios. Describe su trayectoria hasta la Misión de Carmel y menciona la llegada del Capitán Don Fernando Rivera. Indica que los frailes están teniendo dificultades para llevar su parte de los suministros a sus respectivas misiones debido a la escasez de mulas. Informa haber visitado todas las misiones durante su viaje desde San Diego, elogiando el progreso realizado tanto espiritual como materialmente y prometiendo informar sobre cada misión por separado. Explica el nombramiento del Padre Juan Crespí como nuevo capellán de la expedición debido a la enfermedad del original; el Padre Tomás de la Peña acompañaría a Crespí.
