资源简介:

This dataset consists of linguistic data elicited from three Taiwan Mandarin speakers. The data were elicited with a self-paced application that randomly displayed 175 animated video prompts. After a speaker saw a video prompt, they made a sentence or sentences in Taiwan Mandarin, describing the event depicted by the prompt. Sentences made by the speakers were audio-recorded with a 4th-generation iPod Touch, and the recordings were subsequently clipped with the software Praat. The audio clips are the .wav files in this dataset. Beside the audio data, users can find in this dataset transcripts of the audio clips as well as annotated linguistic data in a format readable by the annotation application ELAN. For more information about the application that was used to elicit the data, see Benedicto (2019) at https://doi.org/10.4231/R7PN93M4.

The data were originally collected for the purpose of a linguistic doctoral dissertation that was focused on the syntactic structure of motion predicates in Taiwan Mandarin. The video prompts were designed to elicit linguistic contrasts in certain aspects of motion events, such as telicity, agentivity, dimensions of the path, etc. For more detailed information about the original purpose of the data and the elicitation procedure, see Chen (2021) at https://doi.org/10.25394/PGS.14839587.v1.

This dataset is an important resource for anyone interested in the study of language and spatial/motion cognition.
