Transcriptome profile of buffalo term placenta. Bubalus bubalis

There is an urgent need for the identification of conceptus specific pregnancy biomarkers in buffalo for developing a pregnancy detection method suitable to use as reproductive management tool as other method have limited applicability in pregnancy confirmation. Placenta is a transient organ plays an important role in feto-maternal communication only during pregnancy and releases cell synthesized secretary and excretory products in maternal circulation. Identification of these might help in identification of pregnancy related events and biomarker for development of early pregnancy diagnostics. Information on this important organ is limited because of non-accessibility of tissue samples during continuance of pregnancy. Term placenta is thus a valuable tissue sample for investigation once collected at right time. The whole profile of transcripts in term placenta might help understanding the physiology of continuance of pregnancy or pathology of pregnancy termination. This knowledge can further be utilized to find out the targets of non-coding RNA such as microRNA which regulate the post transcriptional mRNA function.
