Survey data and systematized results on first-person forms of Russian neologism verbs
收藏资源简介:
The 2 files contain the results of a linguistic study conducted among native Russian speakers, which involved a survey of Russian speakers about the first-person present tense forms of Russian neologism verbs with stem endings that suggest alternations (alternations: m'/ml', p'/pl', v'/vl', f'/fl', s'/sh', st'/shch, t'/ch, d'/zh). The aim of the study was to use new verbs to determine whether native speakers continue to perceive historical alternations as an integral part of verb paradigms and to identify strategies for verb formation under conditions of grammatical ambiguity. A stimulus experiment was used to identify a range of potential strategies, record form-formation refusals and periphrastic substitutions, and obtain native speakers' metalinguistic reflections, i.e., to examine not only existing forms but also the process of verb formation under conditions of grammatical ambiguity. The survey was conducted using Google Forms. The stimulus material included 22 new verbs of the second conjugation with 5 types of alternations: 1) labial consonant / labial + -l' - (7 verbs: spamit', soskufit'sya, shejmit', fakapit', hajpit', appruvit', follovit'); 2) t' / ch' (7 verbs: donatit', hejtit', m'yutit', kommentit', gazlajtit', reportit', tvitit'); 3) s't' / shch' (3 verbs: postit', kopipastit', bustit'); 4) s' / sh' (3 verbs: forsit', fleksit', pofiksit'); 5) d' / zh (1 verb: frendit'). Respondents (N = 311) were instructed to «Please form the first-person form of the following verbs—neologisms and slang—as in the pair on guglit – ya guglyu ('he googles – I google'), etc». This was followed by a stimulus in the third person singular (e.g., "On donatit, ya…" ('He donates, I...'). The respondent's task was to substitute the required form. The study revealed that respondents formed forms with historical (standard) alternations, forms without alternations, and forms with non-standard (occasional) alternations. A dependence was found on the type of alternation. The Excel file contains the raw survey results. The Word file contains 5 tables according to the type of alternation, in which the answers are systematized, the proportions of forms with historical alternations, without alternations, with non-standard alternations, refusals to answer and periphrastic substitutions are calculated both in percentages and in absolute values.
