Shotgun Metagenomic Sequencing to Examine the Gut Microbiome in Konzo

Shotgun metagenomic sequencing was performed on DNA isolated from feces collected from 180 individuals (children) in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The samples are collected from three regions in the DRC, Kinshasa, Masi-Manimba, and Kahemba, and from individuals both affected and unaffected with konzo, a distinct upper motor neuron disease prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa.
