This series comprises registers of patients admissions and discharges for patients at Callan Park Hospital.These registers introduced a new patient registration system where all patients, regardless of their admission classification, were entered into a single register.The books recorded the first admission of a patient and allocated a ‘unit number’ to each patient. Subsequent admissions are recorded using the same 'unit numbers', therefore new numbers and previously allocated numbers are intermixed in the registers. Register entries are chronological by date of admission and early entries are usually in numerical sequence.The volumes have standard, printed columns headed: date of previous admission (if any); unit number [patient registration number]; date of admission; name at length; sex – male/female; age; social condition – married, single, widowed; occupation; nativity [where born]; residence; classification of admission [whether voluntary, temporary, inebriate or under provisions of the Mental Health Act, 1958 (Act No. 45, 1958); date made vol. [voluntary admission]; date Sch. 2 [Schedule 2 admission]; date made temporary [temporary admission]; date made ineb. [inebriate admission]; date of departure; [columns for documenting admission at other institutions] Callan Park; Gladesville; Parramatta; Kenmore; Rydalmere; Newcastle; Morisset; Stockton; Peat & Milsons Islands; Bloomfield; North Rydalmere; Allandale; Mount St. [Saint] Margaret's; discharge - recovered, relieved, not improved, died [each further divided into male/female]; and cause of death or mode of departure. The entries are in chronological order by date of admission.
