Red-spotted masu salmon (Oncorhynchus masou ishikawae) is endemic to southwestern Japan and its anadromous form is the southernmost sea-migrating form of salmonid. In recent decades, however, the abundance of the anadromous form has declined rapidly. Therefore, identification of genetic mechanisms underlying migration by establishing genomic data resource will contribute to conservation and sustainable management of red-spotted masu salmon. . In this project, a novel genome assembly for red-spotted masu salmon was constructed by Illumina short reads using reference-guided assembly approach using a chromosome-level Oncorhynchus tshawytscha genome assembly (Otsh_v1.0, NCBI accession number: GCA_002872995.1), a species related to red-spotted masu salmon.
