The objectives of this study were to (1) identify species of Culicoides emerging from tree hole samples collected in July 2016 and February 2018 at the Bob Jones Wildlife Research Institute in Southern Louisiana, (2) use Illumina high throughput sequencing of 16S rRNA genes to describe the prokaryotic taxa composition in unprocessed tree hole contents.
