Double-fortified salt containing folic acid and iodine improves the folate status of non-pregnant Ethiopian women compared with iodized salt and does not impair their iodine status: a community-based, household randomized, three-arm, dose-response trial

The double-fortified salt (DFS) survey was conducted to test the acceptability and intake of salt fortified with both iodine and folic acid (IoFA), in comparison to standard iodized salt (IS). The study also examined how DFS affects biomarkers for folate and iodine status, and whether any serious side effects occurred.
