Genomic investigation reveals contaminated detergent as the source of an ESBL-producing Klebsiella oxytoca outbreak in a neonatal unit. Klebsiella oxytoca strain:M82255

The investigation into an outbreak of extended spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) producing Klebsiella oxytoca in a special care nursery revealed contaminated washing detergent as the source. The Contaminated detergent resulted in colonisation of 10 patients with ESBL K. oxytoca. The control of the outbreak required intensive infection control investigation where real-time WGS confirmed the source and likely transmission characteristics.
