资源简介:

Chikaraishi (Strength Stone) Collection A popular contest among young men in the Edo Period was to show off their strength by lifting particularly heavy stones. This contest gradually faded out from around the middle of the Meiji Period, but regained popularity in the Taisho Period. The collection of strength stones in Yanagimori Shrine grounds are some of the stones used during the lifetimes of sumo wrestlers from these times, namely Iida Tokuzo, popularly known as Kandagawa Tokuzo, who achieved fame as an Ozeki (second highest rank), and his fellow wrestlers. The stones were brought together here to commemorate their achievements to later generations.
