The Global Temperature and Salinity Profile Programme (GTSPP) is a joint initiative carried out by the IOC/IODE Commission and the IOC/WMO Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS) Commission. The International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) and the Integrated Global Ocean Services System (IGOSS) are the technical committees under the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), respectively. The World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE) is a component of the World Climate Research Programme (WCRP). It generated in-situ and satellite observation data (approximately 9,000 stations) from nearly 30 countries spanning the years 1990 to 1998. This dataset substantially increased the depth coverage of global oceanographic data, and boasted unprecedented data quality, making it applicable to studies of large-scale ocean currents. Building on this dataset, the WOCE Global Hydroclimatology (WGHC) provides 45-layer hydrographic data with a spatial resolution of 0.5° × 0.5°.
