Navigating Liminal Spaces: Agentic Possibilities and Professional Identity among English for Specific Purposes Educators in Indonesian Sports Science Higher Education Contexts

This study looks at how ESP educators working between English and sports science manage their roles and identities. Some are trained in English and adapt to sports, while others come from sports and learn to teach English. Using interviews and documents from nine Indonesian universities, the study shows both groups actively adjust, learn new skills, and make decisions based on their backgrounds and goals. Their experiences shape how they teach, research, and grow professionally. However, there is a disconnect between what institutions expect and how their work is recognised. The study suggests better support is needed for these educators.
