Testing Star-Planet Interaction in the Highly Eccentric System HD 80606

Recent studies of systems with hot Jupiters have shown cases of enhancedactivity likely related to the interaction of the host with its planet. Wepropose to study the extremely eccentric HD 80606 system with two XMMobservations\\: one during periastron and one out of periastron, to discover ifsuch interactions between the star and the planet manifest in Xrays at theclosest planetary approach. This has implications for\\: i) magnetic interactionand reconnection occurring between star and planet, ii) mass transfer that couldoccur at the periastron, and iii) the overall Xray activity of the host starand its feedback on the planet itself. truncated!, Please see actual data for full text [truncated!, Please see actual data for full text]
