Survey Data on Citizens’ Perceptions of Avian and Their Ecosystem Services in Zhoushan

This dataset documents a structured questionnaire survey conducted in Zhoushan, China, between April and July 2024. A total of 1,430 valid responses were collected through face-to-face interviews across four administrative regions—Dinghai District, Putuo District, Daishan County, and Shengsi County—in proportion to their population size. The dataset captures multiple dimensions of residents’ interactions with birds and nature, offering a valuable resource for ecological and social research.

The dataset is organized into six main sections: (1) sociodemographic characteristics (gender, age, education, occupation, income); (2) participation in nature-related activities (gardening, recreation, media, reading); (3) bird visibility and species knowledge, based on recognition and identification of nine common species; (4) perceptions of avian ecosystem services and disservices, measured by 14 Likert-scale statements aligned with the CICES framework; (5) nature connectedness, assessed with the NR-14 scale; and (6) conservation attitudes, including awareness, perceived conflicts, preferences, and self-reported behaviors. These data provide a detailed account of public perceptions of birds in an urbanizing coastal city, suitable for descriptive analysis and inferential modeling such as regression and SEM, and can support research on biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and human–nature relationships
