These films were produced by or for the Department, chiefly 'to illustrate the Department's policy in the care of dependent, wayward and problem children'. (1)  They cover issues such as child abuse/neglect and delinquency, conditions and activities in shelters and other Departmental facilities (homes and training schools), and social welfare activities such as the work of emergency housekeepers assisting mothers with young families.  These films were used extensively by the Department's Information and Extension Service for the purposes of staff training, by District Officers throughout the State, and to assist visitors interested in the Department's work with 'problem' children. (2)The majority were produced in the 1960s, when there appears to have been a particular emphasis on illustrating the work of the Department's various training schools. (3)Endnotes1.
