VPRS 7630 Minute Books of the Constitution Act Amendment Committee

Conflicts between the Legislative Council and Legislative Assembly appear to have commenced almost from the beginnings of constitutional government in Victoria. Over the period between 1860 and 1880 much of the protestations centered on the right of veto of the Legislative Council. The Constitution Act Amendment Committee appears to have been established in an attempt to remedy the conflicts.The Minute Book(s) of the Committee contain notes of the proceedings and discussions at meetings. Comments and deliberations are also noted and some diagrams of suggested amendments to schedules, etc. are also included.The Minutes also contain the names of the members of the committee present at various meetings. The arrangement is chronological.
