Nickel piperidine dithiocarbamate: synthesis, characterization, and crystal structure

Nickel piperidine dithiocarbamate was synthesized by reacting sodium piperidine dithiocarbamate with nickel salt in aqueous medium. The complexes were characterized using infrared spectroscopy, elemental analyses, mass spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analyses, and nuclear magnetic resonance. The single crystals of the nickel piperidine dithiocarbamate were grown from chloroform and the crystal structure was determined. The green crystal was identified to be monoclinic with a space group of P21/c. The nickel atom in the complex was coordinated to four sulfur atoms from the two piperidine dithiocarbamate ligands to form a square planar geometry.
