Effects of weight loss induced by calorie restriction on gut microbiome, especially over longer durations, are largely unknown. We longitudinally analysed faecal microbiome composition of 150 overweight or obese adults in a 50-week randomized trial on the metabolic effects of intermittent (ICR) versus continuous (CCR) calorie restriction.
