This dataset contains raw data, R script, macro of ImageJ, and image files which are used in "Variation in leaf utilization sites among three <i>Calystegia</i> (Solanales: Convolvulaceae)-feeding leaf beetle species (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) partly explains differences in competitiveness: A case study of spatial analysis". In this study, the position of feeding scars and oothecae within leaves were analyzed and compared among leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) to address the question of which wears consuming different sites among leaf beetle species can realize spatial niche partitioning. Specifically, images of consumed leaves were divided in a grid, and linked to relatively vertical or horizontal position, and status of leaf surface (i.e., lamina, vein, feeding scars, and oothecae) using assignment of unique symbols.Below is a description of each file.Objects_adjiacent_to_eggs (.csv): number of symbols which indicates status of leaf consumption in a square adjacent to othecae.Spatial_position_of_objects_on_leaves (.csv): number of symbols which indicates status of leaf consumption within a leaves. number of X and Y axis means order of grids from top left corner (x =0, y = 0) to bottom right corner (x = max, y = max).Analysis_for_each_colmun (.ijm): After importing the image of the leaves, which was transformed to a cluster of symbols, to ImageJ, by selecting the column of symbols that and then running this macro, everything can be performed from binarization to particle analysis. Furthermore, after the analysis, the column was deleted, preventing double counting.Analysis_for_adjacent_to_egg (.ijm): The above operations can be applied to the analysis adjacent to oothecae.Analysis_for_between_veins: (.ijm): The above operations can be applied to the analysis between leaf veins.Spatial _analysis (.r): R script. For perfoming the 2-D Kernel density estimation and calculating Hellinger distance, using Spatial_position_of_objects_on_leaves. csv.PCA_to _eggs (.r): R script. For performing Principal component analysis using Objects_adjiacent_to_eggs. csv.SVG_File_for_spatial_analysis (.zip): svg image files which contained raw image, grids, and each symbols which indicates leaf-surface status. All images were prepared using drawing software, Inkscape.PCA_for_feeding scars (.csv): Raw and summarised numbers of each symbols that are positioned adjacent feeding scarsPCA_for_feeding scars: area(cm<sup>2</sup>) of each feeding scars. Ad, At and Ln are <i>Aspidimorpha difformis</i>, <i>Aspidimorpha transparipennis</i> and L<i>accoptera nepalensis</i>, respectively. Numbers in column of "2cmpixels" are used to correspond pixels and cm. The numbers in the "Binary" column are the values of the top slider when binarization is performed.
