Staphylococcus aureus massively colonizes the skin of patients with atopic dermatitis (AD). We characterized the S. aureus population from AD patients for genetic diversity by spa typing. Studies of this type are of great importance for epidemiological investigations and, in a broader perspective, for the development of possible treatment options.
