Manipulating terahertz (THz) beams at will in transmission mode is highly desired, but conventional devices are bulky being unfavourable for optical integration. While metasurfaces (MSs) provide a versatile platform for light manipulation, transmission-mode MSs typically require enough thicknesses to achieve wide-range phase modulation. Here, we propose a generic scheme to design transmissive MSs with extreme thicknesses to generate vectorial light beams, and experimentally verify the concept in the THz regime. This link contains the data for our main text.
