VPRS 5350 Court Register (1890-1905; Register of Prisoners Discharged (1909-1913); Register of Prisoners' Requests for Remittance of Sentence (1919-1912)

This book serves three functions. Firstly, it registers proceedings for Court sittings at Castlemaine. It includes the name of the defendant, the offence and the sentence. If the defendant was a prisoner, it includes the approval or communication of the Governor. In the earlier years, it included information such as the year of birth, where the defendant was born, the name of the ship that the defendant arrived on and the year of arrival into the Colony of Victoria.The second function of this book was to record prisoners discharged from custody. It includes the prisoner's number, name, date received, grade of prisoner and when and how discharged.The third function of the book is to record prisoners' requests in relation to the remittance of the prisoner's sentence and the decision by the Indeterminate Sentences Board (VA 4161).
