Serious Injury Outcome Indicators: 2000–16

##Changes since the 2000–15 release: To make the data more timely and relevant we have brought the release forward from late-November to early-October. Serious Injury Outcome Indicators is now published as a single Information Release covering whole population, Māori, and children (aged 0–14 years). Information on vehicle km travelled was not available in time for this release, therefore we have not produced rates of motor vehicle traffic crash injuries by vehicle km travelled. To better align our data with the water safety sector, provisional drowning figures (from Water Safety NZ's DrownBase) now focus on preventable drownings. To better align our data with Injury Statistics – Work-Related Claims, December-year FTEs are now used for the denominators of work-related injury rates, instead of June-year FTEs. Redevelopment of the Household Labour Force Survey (HLFS) in 2016 has resulted in a shift in full-time equivalent employee estimates. This could have an effect on published incidence rates for 2016 as HLFS full-time equivalent employee (FTE) numbers are used as the denominator for calculating rates. Any changes seen between 2015 and 2016 could be caused by the redevelopment or they could just be normal sample variation. There are currently no estimates to help determine between the two. en-NZ
