Mapping and comparison of the B-cell epitopes recognized on the Plasmodium vivax circumsporozoite protein by immune Colombians and immunized Aotus monkeys.

The sequence is a contruct of six copies of the minimal epitope AGDR derived from the common P. vivax circumsporozoite protein repeat sequence. Sera from donors from two communities in a malaria-endemic region of the Colombian Pacific coast had antibodies to the epitope. The percent of positive sera from donors from Zacarias (43 of 65; 66%) was higher than from Bajo Calima (20 of 56; 36%). Almost all (43) of the 44 samples from Zacarias that recognized the longer peptide GDRADGQPAGDRADGQPA, reacted with the epitope, which contains the minimal epitope AGDR.
