Azragi-Avestan Dictionary: A Living Fossil of Avestan Words in the Hazaragi Dialect (Direct Continuation, No Middle Persian Mediation)

This dataset presents a comprehensive dictionary of Avestan words preserved in the Hazaragi dialect (Āzragī), spoken by the Hazara people (self-designation Āzrah) of central Afghanistan. The dictionary contains over 150 lexical entries across nine thematic categories: architecture, agriculture, food, livestock, nature, music, tools, human traits, and weather/geography. CRITICAL NOTE: These words are NOT borrowed from Middle Persian (Pahlavi). They are direct continuations of Avestan, preserved through an unbroken oral tradition in the Hazaragi dialect. Words like "Āzrah" (from Avestan Arəzahī, the eastern clime of light), "Āsmo" (asman-, sky), "Zīmī" (zam-, earth), "Gīrū" (gairi-, mountain), and "Kata" (kata-, house) have no trace in Middle Persian texts. Their preservation in a living Eastern Iranian dialect proves that Hazaragi is not a "Persian dialect" but a direct continuation of the Avestan language.
