Phenotypic and genotypic prevalence of ESKAPE and other important pathogens at KCH

The study focused on the phenotypic and genotypes prevalence of ESKAPE pathogens plus E.coli, Proteus, and Salmonella in clinical settings and from different clinical specimens. We did antimicrobial susceptibility testing using disc diffusion of all isolates. Isolates that were resistant were further characterized using phenotypic methods-ROSCO discs (ESBL, ampC, and MRSA). The isolates that were found positive by phenotypic methods were analyzed for detection of resistance genes by PCR. We then did WGS on E.coli and K.pneumonia isolates that were positive for CTX-M and CMY by PCR.
