Pig-to-mouse fecal microbiota transplantation reveal gut microbiome causes intestinal barrier dysfunction

Here, using early-weaned diarrhea piglets as a model, we showed that dysbiosis of intestinal microbiota can lead to gut barrier dysfunction. FMT from diarrheic piglets, but not from healthy piglets, to GF mice resulted in intestinal damage symptoms as well as inflammatory reaction in the mice. Besides, we further demonstrated the indispensable role of the intestinal microbiome in gut barrier damage by comparing with the mice treated with FMT and sterile fecal filtrate (SFF) from control mice.
