Lipid droplet (LD) functions in the front line of antimicrobial defense involved in the host-pathogen arms race. Here, to investigate the genetic mechanisms of intracellular bacteria struggling with LDs, we utilized transposon insertion sequencing to identify critical fitness determinants of Edwardsiella piscicida under the pressure of lipid droplets isolated from its native host, turbot.
