资源简介:
This study explores the factors contributing to rising rates of sadness and hopelessness among high school students, particularly female adolescents, during 2019-2021. Using Consensual Qualitative Research (CQR) methods, researchers analyzed survey responses from 202 participants who were high school students within this timeframe, focusing on their perceptions of increased mental health struggles. Five key domains emerged: social media, internet, and technology; the current state of the world; interpersonal concerns; pressure; and school-related challenges. Social media use was identified as a significant contributor, amplifying social comparison, loneliness, and unrealistic expectations. Participants also cited global issues—such as economic instability, political polarization, and the COVID-19 pandemic—as sources of stress and anxiety. Overall, results indicated found that academic, social, and societal pressures, combined with changing social dynamics, and amplified by social media and the lingering effects of the pandemic are crucial stressors impacting adolescents’ mental health. The discussion highlights three overarching themes: the influence of external uncontrollable factors, social media as an amplifier, and the lasting effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Based on these findings, the study recommends targeted interventions, including social media literacy programs, expanded mental health resources in schools, and initiatives to bridge intergenerational gaps.
