资源简介:
We have developed a new contiguous assembly for the Cavia porcellus genome to advance resources relevant to small animal model research, including one used in vector-borne zoonoses. C. porcellus, the domesticated guinea pig, is considered an excellent rodent model for studying many aspects of zoonoses, including tick-borne infections, or many other human diseases of non-infectious origin. These rodents reflect substantial genetic divergence to mice, yet feature more similarity to human genes, particularly for the immunological and other host response pathways. As one example, acquired host resistance against ectoparasites, such as ticks, is reflected in incidental hosts like guinea pigs and humans, which is not observed in natural hosts like mice. Therefore, guinea pigs are considered as a better model system for the evaluation of vaccines and immunity, along with other physiological and toxicological studies, which are being explored in our efforts to develop effective anti-tick preventions, including vaccines.
