OnApril16,2024theBiden-HarrisAdministrationlaunchedanewGlobalHealthSecurityStrategy,reaffirmingtheUnitedStates’leadershipinglobalhealthsecurity.ThenewStrategywilldriveactionacrossfederaldepartmentsandagencies,andrallysupportfromothercountries,theprivatesector,andcivilsocietytobetterprevent,detect,respondtoandrecoverfrominfectiousdiseasethreats.TheUnitedStatesworksathomeandabroadtoprevent,detect,preparefor,andrespondtoinfectiousdiseasethreats,whetherthesethreatsoccurnaturally,accidentally,orintentionally.U.S.nationalsecurityandprosperitydependoncountriesaroundtheworldbeingpreparedtopreventoutbreakswhenpossible,andtorapidlydetectandrespondtobiologicalthreatswhentheyoccur.TheCOVID-19pandemicdemonstratedtheriskthathealthsecuritythreatsposetoindividuals,communities,andnations–endangeringhealth,straininghealthsystems,anddisruptingeconomiesandlivelihoods.Recentoutbreaksofmpox,Marburg,choleraandotherdiseasesareareminderthattherisksofinfectiousdiseasesareincreasingaroundtheworld.Partneringwithothercountriestostopinfectiousdiseasethreatsattheirsource,aimingtopreventhealthemergenciesandpandemics,protectsAmericansandpeoplearoundtheworld.
