资源简介:
Four samples from the historic Charles Towne Landing site (38CH1-PSTS) were analyzed for archaeobotanical remains. Charles Towne Landing State Park is located along the west bank of the Ashley River, across the river from Charlestown, South Carolina, which occupies the east bank of the river. The park is situated on a peninsula surrounded by tidal, salt water marshes. Upland areas are primarily comprised of mixed hardwoods and grassy openings. Samples from two possible planting features and a possible agricultural trench feature were examined using pollen and phytolith analysis. A sample from unit 179, level 3, representing a possible floor or work yard, was examined using pollen, phytolith and FTIR analysis. The results of the analyses should provide some information useful to interpreting the origin and function of these features associated with historic Charles Towne Landing.
