Topics covered in this survey include the most important news event in the past year and in the last ten years; whether respondent favors increased aid to Kampuchea and East Timor and would be willing personally to make additional sacrifices in favor of the people from those countries; whether respondent agrees that only people who are genuinely unemployed and seeking work should receive unemployment benefits; the Federal Governemnt plan to provide extra training courses with a small allowance for potentially unemployed young people; Federal Government's recent changes to health insurance; whether respondent has private health insurance; opinion on private health insurance providing value for money; apporval or disapproval of the propsed establishment of low-cost health maintenance funds not covered by the National Health Act; whether respondent enters the year 1980 with hopes or fears; and, opinion on likelihood of war developng between the United States and such countries as Iran and Pakistan. Background variables include occupation of self and head of household, whether respondent assists employer on purchase decisions, marital status, education, age, sex, voting enrolment, vote intention, economic classification, gross income, and phone ownership.
