The spider diversity of the Karoo National Park, South Africa (Arachnida: Araneae) an updated checklist

In a Karoo National Park spider checklist published in 1999, 116 species from 37 families were listed. This updated checklist lists 148 species from 42 families, adding 32 species and five families. Information on the endemicity and conservation status of all the species is provided. Most species (134) have a wide distribution range and are of Least Concern; nine species are Data Deficient, and one is Rare. The family Araneidae was the most diverse, with 18 species sampled, followed by the Salticidae with 15 species and Thomisidae with 11. Thirteen of the families are known only by a single species. Karoo National Park is the type locality for two species.
