Whole genome sequencing project to investigate mobile elements harbouring blaNDM-1 and other resistance determinants from Acinetobacter baumannii isolated in Tamil Nadu, India. Acinetobacter baumannii producing NDM-1

Extensively drug resistant Acinetobacter baumannii isolated from clinical isolates collected in Tamil Nadu in 2005 were found to produce NDM-1. 3 representative isolates were sequenced by illumina and assembled de novo using velvet. Functional annotation was provided using RAST, and then refined following comparison with homologous reference sequences. Plasmid pNDM-32 from strain CHI-32 was assembled completely with PCR and sequencing of amplicons to confirm the final assembly.
