Integrating metavirome analysis of wastewaters into tools for surveillance of infectious diseases. WasteWaterVir

Viral surveillance of wastewater from urban areas may allow early detection of viral pathogens and discovery of new potentially pathogenic viruses. In this project, we will explore and develop tools for metavirome analysis of wastewaters that will contribute to the detection and surveillance of emerging pathogenic viruses, essential for preventing and controlling epidemics. We will carry out untargeted sequence-independent single primer amplification (SISPA) and nanopore sequencing (MinION) to analyse the viromes of influents of three urban wastewater treatment plants located in Portugal.
