Project Description This dataset supported the determination and evaluation of specific values of kinematic thresholds within the SHRP 2 data that define a near-miss event. These findings could then be applied to the detection of near-misses in other datasets. The authors were particularly interested in applying them to data from the UTC Virginia connected vehicle testbed. Data Request Scope The dataset contains two elements. The first is a collection of 15 trips where crashes or near-misses were identified. These trips had to be at least five minutes long following any clipping of start and end locations. No GPS locations are included for the crashes or near-misses. The second is a random set of 14 trips that can be compared with the first set of data. Data Specification For each of the crashes or near-misses, the dataset contains three files: a forward video, a rear video, and a csv file containing the time series data. There are 45 files in total for this portion of the dataset. The non-crash/near-miss events are only represented by the csv files. There are 14 files in total for this portion of the dataset. A data dictionary describing the videos and the columns in the csv files is included with this citation.
