Denovo Transcriptome aasembly of Gloriosa superba from leaf tissue. Gloriosa superba

The medicinal plant, Gloriosa superba is rich in alkaloids like colchicine and colchicoside which are useful in treating number of ailments incuding cancer. In the current study denovo transciptome assembly of G. superba was conducted to identify the pathways and enzymes involved in biosynthesis of these compounds as well as to develop large scale EST SSRs for the study of genetic relationships among the available Gloriosa genotypes.Tubers of G. superba were collected from State Forest Research Institute, Jabalpur and Chattarpur; both from Madhya Pradesh and Mulanur , Tamilnadu. The transcritptome sequencing of all the three ecotypes were done from the leaf tissue at the time of flowring after 8 weeks of sowing the tubers.
