Exploration of Neuroprotective Effects of Garcinone D Against Oxidative Stress and Neuroinflammation in a Cellular and Mouse Model

This thesis investigates how Garcinone D, a natural compound from mangosteen fruit, may protect the brain in conditions linked to Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases. Laboratory and animal studies show that Garcinone D blocks harmful protein clumps, reduces brain cell damage from oxidative stress, limits inflammation, and improves memory-related behaviour. These benefits may occur through biological pathways that control inflammation and antioxidant defences. Because Garcinone D targets several disease processes at once and is already present in foods eaten by humans, it may be a safe and promising option for future treatments to protect brain health.
