Using a polyphasic approach the cyanobacterial composition in Meiktila Lake in Myanmar was investigated. Genetic analyses revealed the presence of Raphidiopsis (Cylindrospermopsis) raciborskii and Microcystis sp. in the phytoplankton of Meiktila Lake. In the ENA database both Microcystis strains are named as Microcystis aeruginosa although in the publication (Ballot et al. (2020):Cylindrospermopsin- and Deoxycylindrospermopsin-Producing Raphidiopsis raciborskii and Microcystin-Producing Microcystis spp. in Meiktila Lake, Myanmar. Toxins 2020, 12, 232) one Microcystis strain (LR590630)resembles M. novacekii morphologically.
