A0897 was one of two isolates from the Trans-Eurasian (TEA) group of the Bacillus anthracis phylogeny which were whole-genome sequenced. Its sequence was compared to that of Ba4599 (derived from the first case of anthrax during the Scottish heroin user outbreak in 2009) to determine the likely origin of the anthrax spores causing the outbreak.
