Ethnobotanical reference table for natural insect deterrence in heritage collections: Southeast Asia / Tabla de referencia etnobotánica para la disuasión natural de insectos en colecciones patrimoniales: sureste asiático

This open-access dataset compiles botanical data and traditional knowledge on 16 plant species used in Southeast Asia (Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Laos, and East Timor) as natural insect deterrents for the preventive conservation of heritage collections, particularly textiles. Initiated in 2016 and continuously updated, it includes scientific nomenclature, common names in eight regional languages (Spanish, English, Thai, Indonesian, Malay, Tagalog, Vietnamese, Burmese and Lao), IUCN conservation status, plant part used, mode of application, and notes on active compounds (sesquiterpenes, beta-caryophyllene, linalool, among others). Originally published in Our ancestors knew best and subsequently updated, it promotes natural and culturally grounded alternatives to synthetic pesticides in heritage conservation. Esta tabla de acceso libre compila datos botánicos y conocimientos de uso tradicional de 16 especies vegetales empleadas en el sureste asiático como disuasores naturales de insectos para la conservación preventiva de colecciones patrimoniales, particularmente textiles. Iniciada en 2016 y en actualización continua, incluye nomenclatura científica, nombres comunes en ocho idiomas de la región, estado de conservación de la UICN, parte de la planta empleada, modo de aplicación y notas sobre compuestos activos.
