Testimonianze monumentali della Grecìa Salentina: Conoscenza e valorizzazione

If we consider the circulation of griko, history tells us that the area affected by speakers of this dialect was much wider than the current one and that this situation was supported by the circulation of the Greek rite also present in many Romance communities. But after the Council of Trent the Latin Church imposes its own liturgy and with the rite also disappears the griko in most of the Terra d' Otranto. Today, griko' speakers are reduced to a small minority even in grico-speaking countries. If we want to save the language and traditions of the "Grecìa Salentina" and avoid its disappearance, it is necessary to create a specialized library about the culture and cultural tradition of the places that, together with the monuments, will help the younger generations to recover their memory.
