North Schleswig: The German Minority, 1971

In order to examine a number of questions concerning the German minority in Schleswig (Southern Jutland) an intensive interview survey was carried out. In order to gain general information it was necessary to relate the conditions of the minority group to those of the Danish majority, which for that reason also had to be included as an essential element in the project, which was carried out as a panel study. #The problems examined include the size of the German minority in Schleswig, national identification of the German minority, how easily can it be differentiated from the surrounding Danish majority, the applicability of various definitions, the general relationship between the German minority and the Danish majority, the social structure of the minority, other collective resources available, political behaviour in connection with the general election in September 1971, attitudes to the EC before the referendum in 1972, etc
