Actinobacteria are well-known for being valuable sources of natural bioactive metabolites, which have widespread use in medicine, agriculture and industry. Therefore, they have been exploited for novel secondary metabolites using classical isolation and analytical methods for several decades. However, due to the re-discovery of the same metabolites from the known microorganisms, novel approaches such as genome mining to exploit biosynthetic potential of actinobacteria have appeared a matter of the utmost importance. In this project, we aim to isolate novel actinobacteria from arid red soils in Anatolia and analyse their bioactivity together with genome mining for biosynthetic gene clusters.
