Sensory Cue Combination in Children Under 10 Years of Age

These data were gathered in an audio-visual localization task with 7-10 year old children. Participants were sometimes given an audio signal, sometimes given a visual signal, and sometimes given both. The main notable finding is that children under 10 years old were more precise with both together than either alone. The first sheet gives raw responses. The second sheet shows the calculated VE (variable error; variance of the responses minus the targets), bias (mean signed error), and MSE (mean squared error). The third sheet gives the data for a similar experiment, but with a visual cue that varied in its precision. A mathematical modelling approach again suggested that children were mainly using a strategy that allows them to increase precision with both cues.
