# Anonymized dataset for VR vibrotactile target-acquisition study This repository contains de-identified participant-level performance data for the manuscript: "Interpretability Matters in Immersive Virtual Reality: Vibrotactile Cue Complexity and Target Acquisition Under Attentional Load" ## Study overview The study evaluated whether body-worn vibrotactile feedback improved target-acquisition performance in an immersive virtual reality task. Twenty-seven adult military cadets completed a counterbalanced within-subjects crossover design comparing haptic and no-haptic conditions across three target-acquisition scenarios of increasing complexity. ## Files - `performance_data_anonymized_wide.csv`: participant-level data in wide format, one row per participant. - `performance_data_anonymized_long.csv`: tidy long-format data, one row per participant, scenario, and feedback condition. - `summary_statistics.csv`: descriptive summary statistics by scenario and feedback condition. - `data_dictionary.csv`: variable names, definitions, units, and allowed values. - `README.txt`: this file. ## Anonymization Original subject labels were replaced with anonymized identifiers (`P001`--`P027`). No names, dates of birth, military identifiers, contact information, individual profile information, or raw system logs are included. The dataset contains only de-identified performance measures and counterbalancing condition order. ## Access and reuse note The dataset is intended to support verification of the manuscript results. Because participants were military cadets and the study was conducted in a military training context, users should not attempt to re-identify participants or combine these data with external information for re-identification. ## Variables See `data_dictionary.csv` for full variable descriptions. ## Created 2026-07-11
